Introduction
This teacher support material is designed to accompany the MYP Language B guide (published January 2006). It contains examples of teaching practice and assessed student work, and is intended to give practical help to support teachers’ understanding and implementation of the theory presented in the guide.
The teacher support material is divided into two sections.
-
Assessed student work
-
Appendices
The assessed student work section contains examples of assessed work that have a range of possible uses. Teachers may wish to use these examples as a guide to creating appropriate language B tasks, or as an indication of the standard expected of students by the end of the final year of the programme, in each of the language B levels (foundation, standard and advanced).
The examples are actual student work and are presented in their original styles, which may include spelling, grammatical and any other errors. The examples have been anonymized where necessary (names may have been changed or deleted) and some have been retyped to make them easier to read. Please be aware that due to length requirements, some of the assessed student work examples would not be appropriate as part of a moderation sample.
The teacher support material includes assessed student work in six languages: Chinese, English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. If teachers are familiar with more than one of these languages, it may be worthwhile for them to look at the other language versions, as the examples are different for each language.
The appendices include guidance on reading comprehension tasks that has been specifically requested by teachers in MYP schools. Sample forms and frequently asked questions (FAQs) are also included.
The oral activity examples include MP3 audio files that can be accessed by clicking on the audio icon:
