Issuing results
Candidates’ results are issued on 5 July for a May session and 5 January for a November session. On these dates Diploma Programme coordinators are able to view their candidates’ results on IBIS. One day later candidates themselves are able to view their own results on a secure site via the Internet. Candidates view their results using a personal identification number (PIN) that the IBO issues to coordinators for each candidate. On request, a candidate’s results can be sent to one or more universities, or an admissions centre such as UCAS in the UK. A secure web site is available to universities for this purpose.
Candidates’ results are considered confidential and are not issued to anyone by phone or e-mail, regardless of whether their identity can be confirmed. It is imperative that all schools have a member of faculty, not necessarily the coordinator, who can be contacted by parents and candidates on the day results are issued and for several weeks after. Their role is to:
- counsel candidates
- accept registrations for retaking subjects
- request enquiries upon results.
About six weeks after the issue of results in July or January, the diplomas, diploma results and certificates are mailed to schools. These high-quality documents constitute the official results and are often presented to candidates during a school’s graduation ceremony. The award of a diploma is a very significant achievement even for those candidates who achieve the minimum requirement of 24 points. The highest possible number of points for a diploma is 45, representing grade 7 in 6 subjects and an additional 3 points for an excellent performance in both the theory of knowledge and extended essay requirements.
