The enquiry upon results service
Finally, after grades have been issued, schools have the opportunity to request a re-mark of externally assessed work if there is any doubt about the marks and grade awarded to a candidate in any subject. To guarantee objectivity a different examiner marks a candidate’s work. Of all grades issued less than one percent are raised through the enquiry upon results service. A candidate’s grade is never lowered—even if the original marking was found to be too generous.
The enquiry upon results service also offers schools:
- the return of candidates’ externally assessed work
- a report on the samples of candidates’ internally assessed work sent for external moderation.
The return of candidates’ work gives valuable feedback to subject teachers within the school, as does the report on internal assessment.
The last date for requesting an enquiry upon results is 15 September following a May session, and 15 March following a November session. A request for an enquiry upon results must be received from the school, and will not be accepted from candidates or their representatives.
Each year 15 September/15 March marks the close of an examination session. But preparations for the next examination session will have already started about 18 months previously and are already well under way.
